Chandigarh, August 6:

As part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a private driver, Amandeep, employed with Raftar Tools and Travel Company, Mohali, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.

An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana.

According to the complaint, the accused demanded ₹60,000 from the complainant to facilitate a compromise with the owner of Raftar Tools and Travel Company, who had earlier lodged a police complaint against him. After negotiations, the amount was allegedly reduced to ₹40,000.

Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Flying Squad-I, SAS Nagar.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, SAS Nagar. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
