Punjab Women’s Commission Issues Notice to Charanjit Singh Channi Over Alleged Derogatory Remarks

Chandigarh, November 18

The Punjab State Women’s Commission has issued a notice to former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Charanjit Singh Channi for allegedly making indecent and derogatory remarks about women during an election rally in the Gidderbaha constituency. The Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of the matter under Section 10 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001.

In response to the alleged violation of women’s rights, dignity, and security, the Commission has summoned Channi to appear in person on November 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM. He has been directed to provide a detailed explanation at the Commission’s office, located at SCO No. 5, 1st Floor, Phase-1, SAS Nagar (Mohali).

The Women’s Commission has emphasized its commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of women and is closely monitoring the case.
