Yoga Has No Substitute, Says Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh

Punjabi University marked the 11th International Yoga Day with vibrant enthusiasm on its campus, hosting a grand event organized by the Department of Physical Education, National Service Scheme (NSS), and Directorate of Sports. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh led the celebrations, actively participating alongside faculty, students, and staff in a dynamic yoga session.
The event featured a range of yoga asanas and pranayama exercises guided by expert instructors, with students delivering captivating yoga performances that heightened the festive spirit. Olympian Dr. Tarlok Singh Sandhu and Patiala Mayor Shri Kundan Gogia graced the occasion as distinguished guests, adding prominence to the event.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh underscored the unparalleled importance of yoga in modern life. “In today’s fast-paced world, yoga’s significance has grown immensely. While there are many ways to stay fit, there is no alternative to yoga,” he stated. Aligning with the 2025 theme, he highlighted yoga as a holistic practice promoting health, harmony, and sustainable living. Dr. Singh also elaborated on the global significance of June 21 being chosen as International Yoga Day.

The event was attended by notable faculty members, including Dr. Amarpreet Singh, Head of the Department of Physical Education; Dr. Anhad Singh Gill, NSS Coordinator; Dr. Gurdeep Kaur Randhawa, Director of Sports; and Professors Nishan Singh Deol and Damanjit Sandhu. Over 150 participants, including international students, faculty, NSS volunteers, and staff, took part in the yoga session, showcasing the university’s dedication to promoting wellness and unity through yoga.
