Punjabi University Successfully Concludes Sports Wing Trials for 2025-26 Session

Over 3,500 Athletes Participate Despite Scorching Heat

Punjabi University’s Sports Department successfully conducted trials for the Sports Wing for the 2025-26 academic session, targeting aspiring athletes (both male and female) seeking admission to various courses and classes at the university’s main campus, neighborhood campuses, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges. The trials were held at the university’s Sports Complex and various colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction.

Wide Range of Sports Covered

Director of Sports, Dr. Gurdeep Kaur Randhawa, shared that the trials encompassed a diverse array of sports, including archery, athletics, swimming, cycling, softball, baseball, hockey, handball, kabaddi (national style), karate, wrestling, kayaking and canoeing, rowing, cricket, kho-kho, gatka, chess, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, tennis, soft tennis, squash racket, taekwondo, netball, pistol/rifle shooting, pencak silat, football, fencing, basketball, boxing, badminton, yoga, rugby, volleyball, wushu, sepak takraw, and weightlifting. Approximately 3,500 athletes participated in these trials, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm despite the intense heat.

Participation and Support

Athletes from various districts and states took part in their respective events with great zeal, demonstrating their skills and determination. The trials were efficiently organized with significant support from coaches of the Sports Department (Punjab) and District Sports Departments (Patiala, Faridkot, Mansa), as well as principals, professors-in-charge, and lecturers from various colleges, institutions, and schools. Several former sports personalities and officials also contributed to the success of the event, including:
