Punjab’s Market Booms: Mandi Board Generates ₹324 Crore Through E-Auction of 720 Plots

Punjab’s market is witnessing a remarkable surge, as the Punjab Mandi Board has reported a staggering ₹324 crore in revenue through the e-auction of 720 plots over the past six months, from December 2024 to May 2025. This achievement was announced by Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, on May 31, 2025.
Government’s Role in Fostering Growth
Minister Khudian attributed this success to the Punjab Government’s dedication under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to creating a conducive business environment. He emphasized that the government’s focus on transparency has ensured a competitive and secure bidding process, driving the impressive revenue figures. The e-auctions, conducted across various mandis in Punjab, have marked a significant milestone for the Mandi Board.
E-Auction Breakdown
The e-auction process saw an overwhelming response, particularly in May 2025, when 211 plots were sold for ₹124 crore. The plots were distributed across several locations: 97 in Ludhiana, 30 in Kotkapura, 27 in Kurali, 23 in Talwandi Bhai, 18 in Mehatpur, 6 in Mohali, 5 in Rajpura, and 5 in Phagwara. The monthly breakdown of the auctions includes:
- December 2024: 48 plots sold for ₹28 crore
- January 2025: 66 plots sold for ₹48 crore
- February 2025: 139 plots sold for ₹53 crore
- March 2025: 256 plots sold for ₹71 crore
Modernizing the Auction Process
Harchand Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Board’s goal to efficiently utilize its properties and generate revenue to enhance mandi infrastructure across the state. He noted that the e-auction process has been revolutionized by adopting modern technology, ensuring transparency and creating a competitive bidding environment. This approach has not only streamlined the process but also made it more accessible and trustworthy, encouraging greater participation from traders.
