Fatehgarh Sahib’s young rugby sensation Amritpal Singh, a student of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, has brought immense pride to Punjab and the nation by winning a Silver Medal at the prestigious Central South Asia Rugby Sevens Championship–2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Representing Team India on the international stage, Amritpal delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament and played a key role in helping India secure the silver medal. His remarkable achievement has added another glorious chapter to the university’s sporting legacy.
Amritpal Singh has consistently showcased excellence in rugby over the years. He has represented the university in several All India Inter-University Rugby Championships and has also made a strong impact in the Senior National Rugby Championship and National Games.
The entire university fraternity celebrated this proud achievement with great enthusiasm. The university also highlighted another proud achievement from its sports wing. Athlete Amandeep Kaur has delivered exceptional performances in the Asian Rugby Sevens Series held in China and Sri Lanka. She has now been selected for the Chennai Bulls team in the Rugby Premier League (RPL), further strengthening Punjab’s growing reputation in international rugby.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh stated that Amritpal Singh and Amandeep Kaur are among the first Punjabi rugby players to establish a strong identity at the international level, inspiring countless young athletes across the state.
