RGNUL ORGANISES NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTALDEGRADATION, SOCIALCHANGE, DEVELOPMENT AND ‘THE YOUTH’- NATCON YOUTH

The Department of Sociology, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Punjab organised a Two- Day National Conference on Environmental Degradation, Social change, Development and ‘The Youth’- NATCON YOUTH (25th -26thApril, 2024) which was inaugurated by Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav, Administrative Secretary, Higher Education and Languages, Department of Higher Education, Punjab Government, Chandigarh. World renowned sociologists, Professor (Dr.) MaitrayeeChaudhari, President, Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi and Professor (Dr.) Rajesh Gill, Advocate and Former Professor from Panjab University’s Department of Sociology, Chandigarh were also present as Key Note Speaker and Guest of Honour respectively. The three dignitaries emphasized on the need of empowering the youth in multiple ways with academic as well as administrative efforts of academic institutions and the governmental bodies. Dr. JasleenKewlani, the Convenorand Organizing Secretary of NATCON YOUTH 2024, also released her edited book titled, “The Youth and Holistic Health- Assessing Risks and Designing Mechanisms” felicitated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of RGNUL, Punjab, Professor (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh and the Registrar Professor (Dr.) AnandPawar. A Policy Paper titled, “Institutionalising ‘Online Freelancing’ in the State of Punjab, with a Focussed Reference to Objectives of ‘Lowering Suicide Rates in Youth’ of Punjab and rising the pace of Economic Growth in the State”authored by Dr. JasleenKewlani and co-authored by four students of the university was also submitted to Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav in the Inaugural Session of the event. Around two hundred participants from all over the country participated and presented papers in the Academic Business Sessions conducted in hybrid mode in the two- day event. Other Prominent panelists attending the event include well known Pulmonologist Professor (Dr.) Vishal Chopra; Professor (Dr.) Sanjay Tewari, Honorary Professor, Russian Academy of Social and Fundamental Sciences, Moscow & Convenor, Research Centre ‘Sociology of Sports’, Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi; and Advocate Dr. Kalpesh Kumar and L. Gupta, Founder ProBono India Legal Start Ups, New Delhi. The conference ended on a grand note disseminating the message of the power of youth to usher social change.
