India has announced a 16-member squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, which begins later this month.
Rishabh Pant makes a comeback to the Test team for the first time since December 2022, joining a strong squad led by Rohit Sharma. The uncapped left-arm fast bowler, Yash Dayal, is another addition to the team.

Aside from Pant, the incumbent wicketkeeper, Dhruv Jurel, and KL Rahul, who has also kept wickets in the past, retain their places.
The spin attack features Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. Sarfaraz Khan, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul are the middle-order batsmen, with Shreyas Iyer being left out. Shubman Gill joins a formidable top-order and is likely to continue batting at number three.
Jasprit Bumrah leads the pace attack, which also includes Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, who impressed during the home series against England. Dayal brings a left-arm option to the pace department.

The first Test of the ICC World Test Championship series will be played in Chennai, followed by the second Test in Kanpur.
