Rithvik Bollipalli and Nicolas Barrientos Clinch Maiden ATP Title at Chile Open 2025

Patiala, 03 March (Sports Desk)

The Indo-Colombian duo triumphs over top-seeded Argentine pair in straight sets to claim the ATP 250 crown in Santiago.

India’s Rithvik Bollipalli and his Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos created history by winning the men’s doubles title at the Chile Open 2025 in Santiago on Saturday. The unseeded duo defeated the top-seeded Argentine pair of Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to lift their maiden ATP Tour trophy as a team.

This victory marks the second ATP Tour title for Bollipalli , who previously won the Almaty Open with Arjun Kadhe last year. For Barrientos , this win adds another feather to his cap as the Colombian continues to make strides on the international circuit. The duo first teamed up last month in Dallas, and their chemistry was evident throughout the tournament.

Dominant Performance in the Final

Playing on the hard courts of Santiago, the match began evenly, with both pairs holding serve through the first six games. However, Bollipalli and Barrientos seized control by breaking their opponents twice to clinch the opening set 6-3.

Carrying the momentum into the second set, the Indo-Colombian pair broke the Argentine duo early in the first and third games, maintaining their dominance to wrap up the match in just one hour and three minutes. Their powerful serving was a key factor in the victory, as they fired 11 aces and won an impressive 87% (26/30) of their first-serve points. The top seeds were left helpless, failing to earn a single break point opportunity throughout the match.

Road to the Title

The journey to the final was equally impressive for Bollipalli and Barrientos . In the semi-finals, they edged out the third-seeded pair and recent Buenos Aires champions, Guido Andreozzi and Theo Arribage , in a thrilling encounter, 4-6, 7(9)-6(7), 10-5.

Prior to that, the duo showcased their resilience in the quarter-finals, overcoming Brazil’s Marcelo Demoliner and Marcelo Zormann with a hard-fought 3-6, 7(7)-6(2), 10-8 victory. They also defeated Poland’s Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewski in the Round of 16, winning 7(7)-6(5), 7(9)-6(7) in a tightly contested match.

A Historic Win

This triumph not only highlights the growing prowess of Indian tennis on the global stage but also underscores the potential of partnerships like Bollipalli-Barrientos , who combined seamlessly to outclass higher-ranked opponents.

With this victory, Rithvik Bollipalli cements his status as one of India’s rising stars in doubles tennis, while Nicolas Barrientos further solidifies his reputation as a formidable force in the ATP circuit. The duo will look to build on this success as they aim for bigger milestones in the future.
