Chandigarh, 5 December
The Punjab State Election Commission (SEC) is finalizing preparations and is expected to soon announce general elections for five Municipal Corporations—Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, and Patiala—as well as for 44 Municipal Committees and Nagar Panchayats. In addition to these, by-elections for various wards in different Municipalities and Corporations will also be conducted.
To ensure transparency and provide guidance to potential candidates, Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri outlined the necessary documents required for filing nomination papers. He stated that any individual intending to contest these elections must submit the following:
- Nomination Paper in Form 20
- Affidavit (Annexure-II): This must include:
- Details of movable and immovable assets
- Information on pending court cases (if any)
- Educational qualifications
- Details of assets and liabilities
- The affidavit must be duly attested by an Oath Commissioner, Executive Magistrate of the 1st Class, or Notary Public.
- Caste Certificate (SC/BC), if applicable
- Sponsorship Certificate from the authorized signatory of the political party, in case the candidate is contesting on a party ticket.

These documents must be submitted to the designated Returning Officer on or before the last date of filing nominations.
Commissioner Chaudhuri also informed that specimens of the nomination form, affidavit, and sponsorship form are available for download on the official website of the Commission (sec.punjab.gov.in). Physical copies can also be obtained from the office of the concerned Returning Officer.
