Following the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s dismissal of a single-bench decision to postpone elections in 7 wards of the Patiala Municipal Corporation, the Divisional Commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat on Tuesday administered the oath of office to the newly elected councillors.
Among those present at the ceremony were Patiala MLA Ajit Pal Singh Kohli and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Rajat Oberoi. With this, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) now holds a majority in the corporation, winning 50 out of the total 60 wards.
Those who took the oath include Sonia Das from Ward 1, Ranjit Singh from Ward 32, Geeta Rani from Ward 33, Harpreet Singh from Ward 36, Amanpreet Kaur from Ward 41, Rajesh Kumar from Ward 48, and Harmanjeet Singh from Ward 50.

MLA Ajit Pal Singh Kohli congratulated the newly elected councillors and said that they would now work under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to serve the people of their respective wards and bring about development.
Kohli further added that the people have shown their wisdom by rejecting the traditional parties and choosing AAP. He said that the victory of AAP in 50 out of 60 wards is a clear mandate in favor of the development-oriented policies of the Punjab government.
He also welcomed the High Court’s decision, terming it a victory of truth. He said that the people have shown that they are aware of the false promises made by traditional parties.
