Protests have erupted in Punjab ahead of the release of actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency.’ Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) called on the Central Government and the Censor Board to ban the film, alleging that it misrepresents Sikhs.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the film’s portrayal of Sikh characters has deeply hurt the sentiments of the community, prompting a demand for an immediate ban by the Censor Board.

This controversy comes as a Punjabi film about human rights advocate Jaswant Singh Khalda struggles to receive approval for release, despite 85 cuts being made to it.
SAD President Sukhbir Badal has called for legal action against Kangana Ranaut under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, SAD MP from Bathinda, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, labeled Kangana Ranaut as anti-Sikh and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban the film.
Speaking to journalists after offering prayers at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Harsimrat Kaur Badal warned that releasing a film that defames the Sikh community could destabilize the country’s social fabric. She urged the Central Government and the Censor Board to deny the film’s release approval.
