Statewide Career Guidance Initiative with IIT Madras

Punjab Becomes First State in India to Train 5,000+ School Teachers as Certified Career Mentors

Chandigarh, 05 December

Punjab has scripted history by becoming the first state in the country to launch a massive teacher-upskilling programme in career counselling, in collaboration with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

Announcing the path-breaking initiative, Punjab School Education Minister  Harjot Bains said over 5,000 government school teachers will be transformed into trained Career Mentors, equipping them to guide lakhs of students towards future-ready, informed career choices.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Bains said: “This is not just training it’s nation-building. We are turning every teacher into a career mentor so that no child in Punjab chooses a career out of confusion, pressure or lack of information. Punjab is proud to lead the country in creating a structured, state-wide career guidance ecosystem.”

Dr Amarpal Singh, Chairman, Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), added: “Students in remote villages will now get the same quality of career guidance that was earlier available only in elite private schools. This initiative will empower teachers with new skills, new confidence and the power to shape the destiny of generations.”

 Srikanth, Chief Knowledge Officer, IIT Madras Pravartak, said: “Our vision is crystal clear no child in Punjab should ever make a career choice in the dark. Together with the Punjab government, we are lighting the path to informed, aspirational futures.”

With this pioneering move, Punjab is setting a new benchmark in preparing its students for the jobs of tomorrow, today.
