Aichi Steel’s ₹500 Crore Investment Boosts Punjab Economy

MoU Signed with Vardhman Special Steels for Major Expansion in Punjab

Chandigarh, December 4

On the third day of his ongoing investment mission to Japan, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant  Mann on Thursday secured a major commitment of approximately ₹500 crore from Aichi Steel Corporation – the steel manufacturing arm of the Toyota Group – for expansion of its partnership with Vardhman Special Steels Limited in Punjab.

In the presence of CM Mann, Aichi Steel and Vardhman Special Steels signed an MoU under which the Japanese giant will conduct a detailed feasibility study for fresh investment of around ₹500 crore in future factory operations in the state. Aichi Steel already holds a 24.9% stake in Vardhman Special Steels and is its key technology partner.

Describing it as a “red-letter day” for Punjab, the Chief Minister said the collaboration symbolises the deepening Indo-Japan industrial partnership and will herald a new era of industrial growth in the state by combining Aichi’s cutting-edge technology with Vardhman’s manufacturing expertise.

CM Mann assured Aichi Steel of complete support from the Punjab Government for smooth expansion and invited its top leadership to the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit 2026, scheduled for March 13-15, 2026 at ISB Mohali.

Reiterating Punjab’s investor-friendly ecosystem, the Chief Minister highlighted that several leading Japanese companies have already placed their trust in the state. He noted that Punjab has been recognised as a Top Achiever in the Government of India’s 2024 Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) rankings, reflecting the state’s focus on ease of doing business, transparency and responsive governance.

The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to creating abundant employment opportunities for youth while providing investors with policy stability, speedy approvals and a governance system that truly acts as an enabler of growth. Punjab, he added, is rapidly strengthening its infrastructure and industrial capacity to emerge as a preferred global investment destination.

With this latest development, CM  Mann’s Japan visit has now attracted investment commitments worth ₹1,400 crore (₹400 crore from Toppan Speciality Films + ₹500 crore from Aichi Steel + ₹500 crore from another MoU) in just three days, giving a massive boost to Punjab’s industrial resurgence.
