The Supreme Court has ordered the seizure of assets from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Patiala, Punjab, in connection with a 77-year-old compensation case. However, according to the affected party, the order has not yet been implemented. The case involves Kaniez Fatima, a resident of Jhill village in Patiala district, who moved to Malerkotla after the partition of India.
When normalcy returned, she discovered that her land in Jhil village had been sold by the administration. She filed a case in court, and after her death in 2008, a lower court ruled in her favor, ordering full compensation for her land. The administration challenged this in the High Court and Supreme Court. The Supreme Court directed that Kaniez Fatima’s family either be given the land back or paid the full amount based on current market rates.

Following this, a team from the Patiala court arrived at the DC office and initiated the seizure of assets, including the Deputy Commissioner’s vehicle, office fans, coolers, ACs, and water coolers. However, after administrative officials requested more time on Monday, the team left.
Currently, no administrative or court official is willing to comment on the matter. The Deputy Commissioner’s official Innova vehicle, attached in this case, has been parked aside in the DC complex.
