Tarn Taran Bye-Election: Six Candidates’ Nominations Rejected

Chandigarh, October 22

Following the scrutiny of nomination papers for the Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency bye-election, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, announced that six candidates’ nominations were rejected.

According to the spokesperson, the scrutiny, conducted on Wednesday, found the nomination papers of four covering candidates and two independent candidates invalid per the Election Commission’s rules. The rejected candidates are:

  • Leena Sandhu (covering candidate, Indian National Congress)

  • Kanchanpreet Kaur (covering candidate, Shiromani Akali Dal)

  • Sucha Singh (covering candidate, Bharatiya Janata Party)

  • Rajesh Walia (covering candidate, Aam Aadmi Party)

  • Lakha Singh (independent candidate)

  • Sanjeev Singh (independent candidate)

The nominations were rejected due to non-compliance with the Election Commission’s requirements.

The spokesperson added that October 24, 2025, is the deadline for withdrawing nomination papers, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be released.
