Vartalap: A Discourse on New Criminal Laws at RGNUL

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is set to conduct ‘Vartalap’ – a media workshop at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, on August 9, 2024 (Friday). This workshop will discuss the new provisions of the recently introduced criminal laws. The event will be coordinated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and RGNUL.

Subject experts will share their insights and perspectives on various provisions of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The programme aims to build public awareness and understanding of government policies and initiatives by engaging with media professionals.

On the sidelines of the workshop, an exhibition on the three new criminal laws will be organized by the Central Bureau of Communication on August 9, 2024, at RGNUL. The event is expected to be attended by journalists, media professionals, police officers, teachers, and students.

Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jai Shankar Singh, RGNUL has already incorporated these new criminal laws into its curriculum, effective from the academic session 2024-25. Additionally, RGNUL has taken the lead in integrating the Indic Knowledge System into its legal education framework. This includes the introduction of courses on Ancient Jurisprudence, Shaastric Methods of Inquiring into the Truth, and Shaastric Methods of Argumentation.
