
Chandigarh, August 5
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested a private contractor, Amrit Pal alias Kaddu, on Monday for demanding a bribe of Rs 80,000 to facilitate a tubewell connection for a Bathinda resident.
The contractor, working with the PSPCL office in Maur, was caught red-handed while accepting the first installment of Rs 20,000 from the complainant, Nikki Kaur. She had approached the VB alleging that the accused had demanded the bribe to expedite the connection process.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered, and the contractor will be produced in court. The VB will also investigate the role of PSPCL officials involved in the matter.
