Vigilance Bureau Apprehends Panchayat Secretary for Accepting Rs 20,000 Bribe

Chandigarh, April 21

As part of its relentless drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Gurmel Singh, a Panchayat Secretary at the Block Development and Panchayats Office in Barnala, on Monday for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

According to a VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint by a Patiala-based contractor. The contractor alleged that Gurmel Singh demanded Rs 20,000 as a commission for processing bills related to a solar pump installation worth Rs 3,84,000 on Panchayat land in Fatehgarh Chhana village, Barnala, in 2023.
