Vigilance Bureau Arrests Bank Manager for Embezzling Over Rs 34 Lakh

Chandigarh, November 22

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Pramod Kumar, a former manager of the Punjab Gramin Bank’s Bhano Langa branch in Kapurthala district. Kumar is accused of embezzling Rs 34,92,299 from the bank.

The accused had been absconding since 2022 and was recently apprehended by the VB in his ancestral village in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The modus operandi: Kumar misused the user IDs and passwords of two bank clerks, Jagdish Singh and Rajni Bala, to carry out 26 fraudulent transactions. The embezzled funds were transferred to 12 different accounts. In an attempt to conceal the crime, the accused later deposited Rs 8,16,023 back into five of these accounts.

The VB initiated an investigation into the matter after a complaint was lodged. The charges against Kumar were proven, leading to his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if any other individuals were involved in the fraud.
