
Chandigarh, January 22
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Constable Kindar Singh, posted at Garhshankar Police Station in Hoshiarpur district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. However, the co-accused SHO, Inspector Baljinder Singh Malhi, managed to evade arrest during the trap operation.
The arrest followed a complaint from Hardeep Kaur, a resident of Nangal, who alleged that the police officials demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to prevent her brother’s involvement in a narcotics case. After negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 50,000.

Based on the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and caught Constable Kindar Singh red-handed while accepting Rs 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two witnesses. However, SHO Baljinder Singh Malhi managed to escape the scene.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both accused at VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. The arrested Constable will be produced in court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway to apprehend the absconding SHO.
