
Chandigarh, October 27: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a retired head teacher, Gurmel Singh, and a terminated clerk, Sukhwinder Singh, for embezzling approximately Rs. 36.67 lakh in salary funds.
The Scam:
- The duo, both former employees of Government High School Talwandi Madho in Jalandhar district, allegedly siphoned off the funds between 2013 and 2017.
- They created fake identities and bank accounts in the names of their relatives to receive the fraudulent salary payments.
- The scam was uncovered during an investigation initiated by the District Education Officer of Jalandhar.
Legal Action:
- A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
- The VB is actively pursuing the remaining accused involved in the scam.
