Vigilance Bureau Arrests Middleman Accepting ₹3 Lakh Bribe for Police Officials

Chandigarh, March 4

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a private individual, Dharampal, from Haryana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh.

A VB spokesperson stated that the arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a resident of Asmanpur, Pehowa in Haryana. The complainant alleged that he was being harassed and repeatedly summoned to the Patran Police Station due to a false complaint filed against him. Dharampal acted as a middleman between the complainant and certain police officials, demanding bribes on their behalf. Initially, ₹2 lakh was demanded, followed by an additional demand of ₹4 lakh, which was later negotiated down to ₹3 lakh.
