Chandigarh, June 17
As part of its ongoing fight against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Varinderpal Singh Dhoot, a Naib Tehsildar from Dhoot Kalan village in Hoshiarpur, for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
An official spokesperson of the VB stated that the arrest followed an inquiry conducted by the Jalandhar Range, which investigated allegations of Dhoot amassing wealth beyond his legitimate earnings, both in his name and through family members.
The inquiry covered the period from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2018. It revealed that Dhoot’s total income from known sources during this period was Rs. 3,58,97,111.59, while his total expenditure and acquired assets amounted to Rs. 11,18,34,544.22 – exceeding his lawful income by Rs. 7,59,37,432.63 (211.54%).

The spokesperson noted that this significant disparity indicates that Dhoot, as a public servant, acquired movable and immovable assets and incurred expenses far beyond his legitimate earnings, violating anti-corruption laws.
