Chandigarh/Patiala, October 5
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Amrik Singh, a revenue Patwari posted at Moonak, Sangrur district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000.
The arrest follows a complaint filed by Vakeel Singh, a resident of village Ballran, Sangrur. Vakeel Singh had applied for intkal of his land, but the Patwari demanded a bribe of Rs. 15,000. After negotiations, they agreed on a bribe of Rs. 10,000. The Patwari had already received Rs. 5,000 and was demanding the remaining amount.

Following a preliminary investigation, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the Patwari while he was accepting the bribe in the presence of witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Patiala range, and further investigations are underway.
