In its ongoing campaign against corruption in Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested Junior Engineer (JE) Ranjit Singh, posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) Sub Division, Amritsar South, while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000.
An official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed this today, stating that the accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by Navdeep Singh, a resident of Amar Avenue, Ajnala Road, Amritsar.

The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 to reduce the fine of Rs. 6,00,000 imposed on him. The complainant further informed that the accused had already taken Rs. 50,000 as the first installment of the bribe.
After a preliminary inquiry into this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. The accused will be produced in the competent court tomorrow, and further investigations into this case are underway.
