The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in its ongoing anti-corruption drive, has arrested Manjit Singh, a Junior Engineer (J.E.), and Harjeet Singh, a Lineman, both employed at the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office in Bhogpur, Jalandhar district. The officials were caught red-handed accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe, the second installment of a Rs 10,000 bribe demanded for installing a new electricity meter.

According to a VB spokesperson, the arrests were made based on a complaint filed by Sumeet Wadhwa, a resident of Sudarshan Park, Maksudan in Jalandhar. Wadhwa alleged that the PSPCL officials demanded a Rs 10,000 bribe to install a new meter and replace his old one. The complainant further stated that the Lineman had already received the first installment of Rs 5,000 through UPI.

Following a preliminary investigation, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused officials while they were accepting the second installment of the bribe in the presence of two witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both individuals at the VB police station in Jalandhar, and further investigations are underway.
