Vigilance Bureau Busts Illegal Mining Racket

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a contractor, Mahavir Singh, in connection with an illegal mining operation that caused a loss of approximately Rs. 35 crore to the state exchequer. The contractor, associated with Primevision Company, operated in collusion with officials of the Mining Department in Ferozepur district.

The VB investigation revealed that Mahavir Singh engaged in illegal mining activities in various villages, including Tindwan, Roshan Shah Wala, Bahik Gujjran, Gillanwala, Ansal, Khane Ke Ahl, and Khushal Singh Wala. He reportedly deceived landowners into believing he had legitimate mining contracts.

The investigation also uncovered that the Mining Department officials failed to take action against the illegal mining activities, despite registering numerous cases.

The VB has registered a case against the contractor and the concerned mining officials under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Mining and Minerals Act. The accused contractor has been arrested, and further investigations are underway to apprehend other individuals involved in the racket.
