Chandigarh, July 16:
Continuing its crackdown on corruption across Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Inspector Harsh Bansal, posted at the Cooperative Society in Tapa, Barnala district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
According to an official spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint filed by Jang Singh, a retired Secretary of the Cooperative Society, Tapa.
The complainant stated that a departmental inquiry was pending against him and that the accused inspector had allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh to clear his retirement dues and influence the inquiry in his favour. The amount was later negotiated down to ₹50,000.

Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Patiala Range. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. The tainted currency notes were recovered from his possession.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Patiala. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
