Chandigarh, June 12
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its anti-corruption campaign, arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Baldev Singh, stationed at Sultanpur Lodhi police station in Kapurthala district, for demanding and accepting a Rs. 2,000 bribe.
A VB spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed a complaint filed by a Kapurthala resident through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that ASI Baldev Singh demanded Rs. 10,000 to allow him to join a police investigation after securing anticipatory bail. After negotiations, the ASI reduced the demand to Rs. 5,000 but eventually accepted Rs. 2,000 following the complainant’s persistent appeals.
