Vigilance Bureau Nets Three for Rs 35 Lakh Cooperative Fraud

Chandigarh, August 5

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested three former members of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society in Hamidi village, Barnala district. The accused, identified as Darshan Singh (ex-Sarpanch), Kewal Singh, and Surjit Singh, are alleged to have embezzled Rs 35,93,133 from the cooperative.

A spokesperson for the VB stated that the arrests were made following a FIR registered in 2021 under sections 409, 420 of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case is currently under investigation.

It is worth noting that the society’s secretary, Jagtar Singh, was previously arrested in connection with the same case.
