-Garhshankar Official Caught Demanding Kickbacks for Hunting Permit Amid State’s Anti-Graft Crackdown
Chandigarh, December 31
In a decisive move underscoring Punjab’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the state Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Rajpal Singh, a Block Officer with the Wildlife Division in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur district, for accepting a bribe totaling Rs. 15,000.
The arrest stems from a formal complaint filed by a Balachaur resident—under SBS Nagar district—via Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s dedicated Anti-Corruption Action Line portal. According to VB spokesperson, the complainant had sought a routine hunting permit from Singh, only to be hit with an initial demand of Rs. 50,000. After negotiations, the officer allegedly settled for Rs. 15,000, pocketing Rs. 10,000 upfront with a promise to expedite the paperwork.
