Dubai, 28 August (Sports Desk)

The 10th edition of the Women’s Asia Cup begins today in Dubai, with eight teams set to battle it out across 12 matches. Sri Lanka enter the tournament as the defending champions, while India remain the most successful side in the competition’s history with seven titles.

The inaugural edition was held in 2004 in the ODI format, with the first four editions played over 50 overs. The tournament switched to the T20 format in 2012, adding a faster and more exciting dimension to the competition. This year, all eyes will be on the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash on September 5.

Alongside India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Indonesia, Hong Kong China, Thailand and hosts UAE will also compete for the coveted title. The final is scheduled for September 13.

India are being viewed as the favourites, but defending champions Sri Lanka arrive with strong momentum of their own. Pakistan and Bangladesh, meanwhile, have the firepower to spring surprises and shake up the tournament.
