‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ Day 22: Punjab Police Arrest 75 Drug Smugglers, Seize 5.2 kg Heroin

Chandigarh, March 22
On the 22nd day of the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, launched under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to make Punjab drug-free, Punjab Police arrested 75 drug smugglers in a sweeping statewide operation. The haul included 5.2 kg of heroin, 10 kg of opium, and ₹2.2 lakh in drug money, bringing the total arrests in the campaign to 2,613 in just 22 days.
Massive Statewide Crackdown
Directed by DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the operation spanned all 28 police districts, involving 250 police teams and over 1,700 personnel, led by 98 SP/DSP-rank officers. The teams raided 536 locations, registered 51 FIRs, and screened 601 suspicious individuals, as revealed by Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla.

A Three-Pronged Strategy
The Punjab Government, under CM Mann’s leadership, is employing a robust Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP) approach. As part of the deaddiction efforts, four individuals were persuaded to enter rehabilitation programs. A five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, is overseeing the campaign to ensure its success.

CM Mann has urged Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs to intensify efforts toward a drug-free state. With this latest operation, Punjab Police reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to rooting out the drug menace, one arrest at a time.
