Yudh Nashian Virudh: Punjab Police Arrest Over 10,000 Drug Smugglers in 72 Days, Seize 398kg Heroin and ₹8.5cr

Punjab Police, under the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign launched on March 1, 2025, by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has arrested 10,444 drug smugglers and registered 6,280 FIRs in 72 days, delivering a significant blow to the state’s drug menace. Directed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the campaign aligns with Mann’s vision for a drug-free Punjab.

Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, overseeing operations, reported recoveries of 398 kg heroin, 186 kg opium, 117 quintals poppy husk, 8 kg charas, 135 kg ganja, 2.5 kg ICE, 1.2 kg cocaine, 23.57 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and ₹8.58 crore in drug money. Operations include cordon and search, night patrols, and raids on drug hotspots.

On Day 72, police arrested 133 smugglers, seizing 2.2 kg heroin, 54 kg poppy husk, 73,000 intoxicant pills, and ₹13.22 lakh drug money. Over 250 police teams, involving 1,400 personnel and 90 gazetted officers, raided 495 locations, registered 89 FIRs, and screened 503 suspicious individuals.

The state’s three-pronged Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP) strategy has seen 104 individuals persuaded to undergo deaddiction and rehabilitation treatment, reinforcing Punjab’s commitment to eradicating drugs through holistic measures.
