CHANDIGARH, April 14
The “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, launched on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate the drug menace, marked its 45th day with Punjab Police registering 3,610 FIRs and arresting 5,974 drug smugglers since March 1, 2025.
Following CM Mann’s directive to Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab drug-free, Punjab Police, under Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, has intensified operations. These include cordon and search missions, night patrols, and raids targeting drug hotspots across the state.
Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, overseeing the operations, reported recoveries of 243 kg heroin, 109 kg opium, 75.5 quintals poppy husk, 6 kg charas, 63 kg ganja, 2.2 kg ICE, 1.2 kg cocaine, 9.5 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and ₹6.1 crore in drug money.

Day 45 Highlights:
On the 45th day, Punjab Police arrested 48 drug smugglers, seizing 3.7 kg heroin and ₹6,04,200 in drug money. Over 200 police teams, with 1,100 personnel supervised by 75 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 382 locations, registering 34 FIRs and screening 429 suspicious individuals.
Three-Pronged Strategy:
The state government’s Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP) approach continues to drive the campaign. As part of deaddiction efforts, Punjab Police persuaded one individual to seek rehabilitation treatment.
