Zero Tolerance for Corruption: Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests PSPCL Lineman for Accepting ₹15,000 Bribe

Chandigarh, May 27, 2025
As part of its relentless drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Hardeep Singh, a lineman with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), posted at Sub-Division Jastarwal, Amritsar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
An official VB spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Muhara village, Lopoke tehsil, Amritsar, through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that a storm had damaged an electricity transformer in his fields, and the accused lineman demanded ₹15,000 to carry out the necessary repairs.

Investigations confirmed the allegations. The lineman initially accepted ₹5,000 in cash as the first installment and later coerced the complainant into paying ₹1,000 to a private individual for assistance with the transformer installation. The accused continued to press for the remaining ₹10,000 through voice messages and calls, which the complainant eventually paid via Google Pay.
The VB substantiated the claims with evidence, including call recordings, UPI transaction screenshots, bank statements, and voice messages, confirming that Hardeep Singh had demanded and received a total bribe of ₹15,000. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Amritsar Range. The accused is scheduled to be produced in court tomorrow, and further investigations will probe the involvement of any other officials or employees.
