Zero Tolerance in Action: Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests SDM’s Steno with Rs 24 Lakh Bribe

Reinforcing the zero-tolerance policy against corruption under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s Punjab government, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Jatinder Singh, a stenographer in the SDM Raikot office, Ludhiana district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 24,06,000.
A VB spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed a complaint by a resident of village Sukhana, tehsil Raikot, Ludhiana district. The complainant alleged that SDM Raikot and his steno, Jatinder Singh from village Nurpura, tehsil Jagraon, were extorting large sums from the public for performing official duties.

Acting on the tip-off, the VB team interrogated Jatinder Singh and recovered Rs 24.06 lakh in cash from an almirah in his office. When the accused failed to explain the source of the money, he was arrested. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station, Ludhiana Range, with further investigation ongoing.
