Punjab Boys and Haryana Girls Shine as Category Champions

Punjab showcased its prowess in Gatka, securing the overall championship at the 2nd National Cultural Pythian Games 2025, held at Bengaluru City University, Karnataka. Haryana earned the runner-up position in a thrilling display of India’s traditional martial art, Gatka, a highlight of the Pythian Games.
Over two days of intense competition, Punjab’s boys and Haryana’s girls demonstrated exceptional skill and focus, clinching top honors in their respective categories. Haryana boys and Punjab girls took second place, while Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh shared third in the boys’ events, and Chandigarh and Andhra Pradesh jointly secured third in the girls’ events.
The Gatka competition was launched with enthusiasm by Bijender Goel, founder of the Modern Pythian Cultural Games and Chairman of the Pythian Council of India, accompanied by vibrant traditional performances. The semifinals were inaugurated by B.H. Anil Kumar, IAS, Chairman of the Organizing Committee. On the final day, Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), opened the bouts and lauded the athletes for their sportsmanship and discipline, noting that their performances embodied the courage and grace of India’s martial heritage.

The closing ceremony was attended by Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, Jaspreet Singh Saini, Aarthi Diwan, Sreejith Surendra, coach Venugopal Velloli (Bengaluru), and senior Gatka officials including Jagdish Singh, Harnam Singh, Harsimran Singh, Amritpal Singh, Jashanpreet Singh, Sharry Singh, Narinderpal Singh, and Aman Singh (Chhattisgarh).
Girls’ Results:
- Gatka-Soti Team Event: Haryana’s Ashmeet Kaur, Jaskirat Kaur, and Arjmeet Kaur won gold. Punjab’s Damanpreet Kaur, Ramanpreet Kaur, and Pavneet Kaur took silver. Chandigarh’s Guramanpreet Kaur, Navdeep Kaur, and Ravneet Kaur, along with Andhra Pradesh’s Badepalli Deek Shitha, Kadiyala Bala Chandana Priya, and G. Deephi, shared bronze.
- Gatka-Soti Individual Event: Pavneet Kaur (Punjab) claimed gold, Harmanpreet Kaur (Chandigarh) secured silver, and Badepalli Deek Shitha (Andhra Pradesh) and Kashmir Kaur (Haryana) jointly earned bronze.
- Farrie-Soti Team Event: Haryana’s Ekamjot Kaur, Arjmeet Kaur, and Harsimarpreet Kaur won gold. Chandigarh’s Jeenal, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jashanpreet Kaur took silver, while Punjab’s Mehakdeep Kaur, Ramandeep Kaur, and Prabhleen Kaur, and Chhattisgarh’s Nidhi, Vidhi, and Dimple shared bronze.
- Farrie-Soti Individual Event: Gursimran Kaur (Punjab) won gold, Arjmeet Kaur (Haryana) claimed silver, and M. Dhathri Moghadaramma (Andhra Pradesh) and Jashanpreet Kaur (Chandigarh) jointly took bronze.
Boys’ Results:
- Gatka-Soti Individual Event: Jaskirat Singh (Haryana) won gold, Arshdeep Singh (Punjab) secured silver, and Prabhasees Singh (Punjab) and Jagjot Singh (Uttarakhand) shared bronze.
- Gatka-Soti Team Event: Uttarakhand’s Rajwinder Singh, Jagjot Singh, and Abhijot Singh claimed gold. Punjab’s Narinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Prabhasees Singh took silver, while Haryana’s Rajbir Singh, Simranpreet Singh, and Armandeep Singh, and Chhattisgarh’s Gurpreet Singh, Gurjot Singh, and Samrath Singh shared bronze.
- Farrie-Soti Individual Event: Varispreet Singh (Haryana) won gold, Jaskaran Singh (Punjab) claimed silver, and Hardeep Singh (Telangana) and Abhijot Singh (Uttarakhand) jointly earned bronze.
- Farrie-Soti Team Event: Punjab’s Gursharan Singh, Amanpreet Singh, and Jaskaran Singh won gold. Haryana’s Ajaypal Singh, Sehajpal Singh, and Samarjeet Singh took silver, while Chandigarh’s Satwant Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Bahadur Singh, and Haryana’s Anmoldeep Singh, Jaskirat Singh, and Varispreet Singh shared bronze.
