Thousands of teachers, non-teaching staff from all 484 government-aided schools in Punjab, and pensioners will hold a large-scale protest rally at Gandhi Park, Railway Road, Tarn Taran, on November 1, 2025, against the Punjab Finance Department’s failure to release salaries for seven months. Following the rally, participants will march to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Tarn Taran to demand immediate release of pending grants and withdrawal of what they term the “anti-aided school employee” directives from the Finance Department.
The decision was announced during a state-level meeting of the Punjab Aided School Teachers and Other Employees Union. Union State President Gurmeet Singh Madnipur and State Advisor Gurcharan Singh Chahal stated that the protest aims to highlight the government’s alleged conspiracy to close aided schools, render thousands unemployed, and undermine its claims of an “education revolution.”
Grants to aided schools, operational under the Grant-in-Aid scheme since 1967, have been halted since April 2025 due to an ongoing audit by the Finance Department. This has left approximately 1,700 teachers and staff, along with 6,000 pensioners, in severe financial distress. Despite multiple meetings with ministers and officials, employees from the Tarn Taran constituency have failed to secure the release of funds.

Union leaders expressed deep resentment toward Punjab Chief Minister, Finance Minister, Education Minister, the state government, Finance and Education Departments, and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, accusing them of “inhuman treatment” toward aided school employees and their families.
A formal letter has been sent to the Punjab Government and administration, informing them of the protest scheduled for 10:30 AM on November 1 at Gandhi Park. The union has warned that the government and administration will bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from the demonstration.
