“AAP Promised Regularisation – Delivered Only Empty Words,” Say Agitated Employees

Patiala, October 29

Contract health workers under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Punjab have announced a massive state-level protest rally in Tarn Taran on November 6 — the day of the by-election — to surround and expose the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government for betraying its pre-election promises of regularisation and fair wages.

The NHM Employees Union Punjab, representing nearly 9,000 contractual staff who have been working on meagre salaries for 15–20 years, accused the government of adopting a “lure-and-evade” (lara-lapp) policy — making tall promises before polls but failing to act even after four years in power.

Key Demands Ignored Despite 30+ Meetings

Despite over 30–35 meetings in the last two years, the government has refused to address core financial demands, including:

  • Equal Qualification = Equal Work = Equal Pay
  • Gratuity & Pension Benefits
  • Salary Hike from current “paltry” levels
  • Job Regularisation

“Previous governments ignored us. But AAP promised regularisation in writing. Today, they haven’t announced even one paisa in four years.”Sandeep Kaur & Gulshan Sharma, State Leaders, NHM Employees Union

Nov 6: “Pitt-Siyapa” Protest in Tarn Taran

The union declared:

“To save our future and existence, NHM contract workers from across Punjab will descend on Tarn Taran on Nov 6. We will hold a state-level anger rally and gherao the Bhagwant Mann government — this will be our ‘Pitt-Siyapa’ (public thrashing in protest) of broken promises.”

~9,000 NHM contract workers are expected to join — including doctors, nurses, ANMs, lab technicians, and data operators.

Warning: “Every Platform Will Be a Battleground”

Union leaders issued a stern warning:

“If the government does not resolve our legitimate financial demands on a priority basis immediately, we will gherao the government at every turn, every event, every corner.”
