Anti-Corruption Drive: DEO Clerk Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹20,000 Bribe from Teacher

In its ongoing crusade against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended Vikas Jindal, a clerk at the District Education Officer (Elementary) office in Malerkotla, while accepting a ₹20,000 bribe from a teacher on Saturday.

Case Details

A VB spokesperson revealed that the accused clerk had demanded ₹30,000 from a teacher from Bagrian village, Malerkotla district, to process his pending allowances. The complainant reported that Jindal had already extorted ₹10,000 and was demanding the remaining amount.

Following a preliminary investigation, a VB team from the Patiala Range set up a trap. Jindal was caught red-handed accepting ₹20,000 as the second installment of the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. The tainted money was recovered on the spot.

Legal Action

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Patiala Range. Jindal is scheduled to be produced in court on June 29, 2025, and further investigations are underway to uncover additional details.

The Vigilance Bureau reiterated its commitment to rooting out corrupt practices in public offices. The VB has urged citizens to report instances of corruption through its helpline numbers or official channels, assuring complete confidentiality for whistleblowers.
