Chandigarh, September 8
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested ASI Jindal Lal, Police Post Incharge of Eldeco Estate under Police Station Salem Tabri, Ludhiana, for allegedly accepting a ₹40,000 bribe.
Disclosing the development, a VB spokesperson said the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by a resident of Bhattian Bet village in Ludhiana district.
According to the complaint, the complainant’s wife had a dispute with a neighbour, following which a case was registered at Police Post Eldeco Estate on the basis of medical reports. ASI Jindal Lal was the investigating officer in the matter.
The spokesperson said the accused ASI had allegedly already received ₹50,000 from the complainant in connection with a compromise with the neighbour. However, despite receiving the money, a case was registered against the complainant’s wife.
The accused allegedly demanded an additional ₹40,000 from the complainant for registering a cross-case against the other party. The complainant reportedly recorded the conversation in which the alleged bribe demand was made.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Ludhiana unit. Acting on the complaint, the VB laid a trap and arrested ASI Jindal Lal red-handed while allegedly accepting ₹40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
