CM Mann Unveils ₹90 Crore for Bathinda Railway Projects

Bathinda, January 10,

In a major boost to connectivity and quality of life in Bathinda, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today dedicated the newly reconstructed Multania Railway Over Bridge to the public and approved the construction of a modern Railway Over Bridge at Janta Nagar, together worth approximately ₹90 crore.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Mann said these projects will significantly ease chronic traffic congestion, save precious time for commuters, and end the daily hardships faced by residents, schoolchildren, traders, and emergency services.

Multania ROB – A Modern Lifeline for Bathinda

The 35-year-old Multania Bridge, which connects different parts of the city across the Ambala-Delhi-Sirsa-Bikaner railway lines, had become outdated with a narrow 23-foot carriageway and inadequate service roads. Frequent potholes during monsoons and repeated temporary closures had made it unsafe and inconvenient.

The state government completely reconstructed the bridge at a cost of ₹38.08 crore. Key features of the new bridge include:

  • Total length: Over 1 km
  • Carriageway width increased to 34.5 feet
  • Construction started: September 11, 2023
  • Completed and opened to traffic: January 10, 2026 (on schedule)

CM Mann added that the space beneath the bridge will be transformed into a vibrant community sports facility featuring a walking track, box cricket, skating rink, basketball court, gym area, and other amenities.

Janta Nagar ROB – Addressing Long-Standing Demands

The existing narrow underbridge at Janta Nagar, connecting Bathinda-Goniaana Road and Badal Ghudda Road over the Bathinda-Firozepur railway line, has long been a source of daily inconvenience and accident risks, especially during the rainy season due to waterlogging.

Responding to persistent public demands, the Punjab Government has approved a new Railway Over Bridge at Janta Nagar at an estimated cost of ₹50.86 crore. The proposed bridge will feature:

  • Length: 650 metres
  • Carriageway width: 31 feet
  • Service road widened from 18 feet to 33 feet

The tender process has already begun, and construction work is expected to start soon.

Highlighting his government’s approach, CM  Mann said:

“Our government is fully committed to the well-being of Punjab. Every decision — whether it is infrastructure, education, health or employment — is taken after detailed consultations with the people and all stakeholders.”

He emphasized that Bathinda is emerging as a major growth hub in the state, and the government is leaving no stone unturned to accelerate its development.

With these timely and much-needed infrastructure projects, Bathinda is set to get smoother traffic flow, enhanced safety, and better quality of life for its residents.
