The Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala, successfully organized a Bird Watching Programme on the university campus on November 11, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM.
Renowned for its rich avifauna, the Punjabi University campus provided an ideal setting for the event. Dr. Onkar Singh Brraich, Head of the Department, informed that 37 bird species were recorded during the two-hour session. Prominent sightings included Grey Hornbill, Flameback Woodpecker, Black Kite, Hoopoe, Grey Francolin, Brown-headed Barbet, Grey Heron, Spotbill Duck, Common Moorhen, Black-winged Stilt, Greater Coucal, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Crimson-breasted Barbet, Tailorbird, and many others.
Students displayed remarkable enthusiasm in learning bird identification, habitat preferences, and behavioural traits, making the event both engaging and academically enriching.

Dr. Abhinav Saxena served as the Organizing Secretary of the programme. Nearly 100 participants, including students, faculty members, and bird enthusiasts, took part in this early morning activity.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh lauded the department for successfully conducting the event and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting environmental awareness and biodiversity conservation.
