Future Officers in the Making: Punjab Cadets Ace AFCAT and CDS
-MRSAFPI Cadets Secure AIR 2 & 6 in AFCAT; Both Also Clear CDS
Chandigarh, June 3:
In a remarkable achievement, two cadets from the 10th course of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (MRSAFPI), Mohali, have secured the 2nd and 6th All India Ranks in the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT-II).
Cadet Sukhraj Singh Heera, the son of a government school teacher from Ropar district, secured AIR 2, while Jasnoor Singh from Pathankot achieved AIR 6.
Adding to their success, both cadets have already been selected for the prestigious Combined Defence Services (CDS) courses, which are scheduled to begin later this month. In the CDS merit list, Jasnoor Singh secured 1st rank in the Air Force category, while Sukhraj Singh Heera earned 4th rank in the Army category. Their outstanding performance in both AFCAT and CDS reflects the high standards of training, discipline, and mentorship at MRSAFPI.
Congratulating the cadets, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora said the achievement showcases the talent, determination, and potential of Punjab’s youth.

He stated that Sukhraj and Jasnoor have brought immense pride to the state. He further emphasized that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains committed to strengthening institutions such as MRSAFPI and Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, enabling more young people from ordinary backgrounds to fulfill their dream of serving the nation through the armed forces.
The Minister added that the government’s vision is to provide meaningful opportunities for youth, whether through employment or by helping aspiring candidates earn commissions in the defence services.
MRSAFPI Director Major General Ajay H. Chauhan, VSM (Retd.), also congratulated the successful cadets and revealed that around 24 cadets from the institute are currently awaiting joining letters for various training academies across the country, with courses set to commence shortly.
