India scripted history at the 1st World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026, held in Ahmedabad from June 4 to June 8, by securing a remarkable 114 medals, including an astonishing 102 gold medals, along with 9 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Displaying complete dominance on the global stage, Team India emerged as the undisputed champion of the inaugural world championship. The outstanding performance highlighted India’s strength and leadership in the sport of Yogasana.

Among the notable individual achievements, Alka Periwal from Punjab won a gold medal in the Backward Bending Event in the Senior Girls category, bringing pride to both Punjab and the nation. Her success contributed to India’s historic medal tally and further strengthened the country’s position in the world of Yogasana sports.

To prepare for this prestigious championship, Yogasana Bharat organized an intensive national training camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad. The camp began on May 10 and concluded on June 3, providing athletes with world-class training and preparation before heading directly to the championship venue.

The Indian contingent consisted of 122 elite athletes representing various age categories, ensuring strong participation across all competitive divisions.

The national camp was led by Chief Coach Dr. C.K. Mishra, supported by a team of experienced coaches and technical staff. Athletes underwent rigorous training using state-of-the-art facilities to enhance their performance and readiness for the world event.

Adding further strength to the coaching team, Komal Verma, an NS-NIS qualified coach, served as the Assistant Coach for the women athletes, helping ensure focused preparation and technical excellence.

The official Team India squad was announced on June 3 during the camp’s closing ceremony in the presence of Dr. Jaideep Arya, Secretary General of World Yogasana and Yogasana Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat President Udit Sheth.

The carefully planned training programme and dedicated efforts of athletes and coaches culminated in a historic achievement, firmly establishing India as the global powerhouse of Yogasana sports and setting a new benchmark in the sport’s international journey.
