Health Minister Launches Vital Relief for Flood Victims

Patiala, August 29

Punjab’s Medical Education and Research Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government to provide generous assistance to flood-affected states. He made these remarks during an informal interaction with journalists while flagging off trucks carrying ration and cattle fodder to flood-hit districts from Patiala. Present at the event were Municipal Corporation Mayor Kundan Gogiya, District Planning Committee Chairman Tajinder Mehta, Nagar Sudhar Trust Chairman Megh Chand Shermajra, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarinder Singh Tiwana.

Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that, with many states grappling with floods, this is not a time for politics but for delivering immediate relief to the people. He called on the Central Government to issue an urgent relief package and for Union Ministers to visit flood-affected states to support the affected communities during this crisis. He noted that numerous social organizations and NRIs have come forward to assist, a commendable effort.

The Health Minister stated that the entire machinery of the Punjab Government is working at full capacity in flood-affected areas, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and all ministers actively engaged on the ground. He highlighted the Health Department’s critical role in ensuring timely medical services during this disaster. The state has sufficient stocks of medicines and medical equipment, and awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate people about waterborne diseases.

Dr. Singh informed that over 450 emergency response teams, 323 medical teams, and 174 ambulances from the Health Department are operational in flood-affected areas. Additionally, water, ration, and cattle fodder are being provided as needed. He added that ration and fodder are being sent to flood victims from every constituency in Patiala district.

The event was attended by Aam Aadmi Party District President Tajinder Mehta, BDPO Sukhwinder Singh Tiwana, Samana Market Committee Chairman Balkar Singh Gajjumajra, AAP Patiala Urban Secretary Amit Dabi, Malwa East Zone Trade Wing Secretary Sanjeev Gupta, Mukhtiar Gill, Vinod Singla, Sumit Takeja, Ravel Sidhu, Amarjeet Singh, Angrej Singh, Rajinder Mohan, and a large number of AAP volunteers.
