Punjab is all set to create history by hosting the prestigious Asian Hockey Champions Trophy for the first time in October this year. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has assured complete support and cooperation to Hockey India for the successful organisation of the international tournament.
During a meeting with officials of Hockey India, the Chief Minister said the mega event would further strengthen Punjab’s identity as the cradle of Indian hockey and motivate the youth to actively participate in sports.
CM Mann reiterated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to making world-class arrangements, ensuring foolproof security and providing every possible facility for players, officials and visitors during the tournament. “Punjab has always been the nursery of hockey, and hosting such a prestigious international event on our soil will inspire the younger generation to connect with sports,” he said.

The Chief Minister informed that after the conclusion of the Asian Games on October 3 and 4, the top six hockey teams of Asia will compete in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy. He termed the hosting rights a major achievement for Punjab and a proud moment for the state’s sporting fraternity.
CM Mann also revealed that Punjab has received approval to host another international sporting event in the form of a Four-Nation Invitational Hockey Tournament, which is expected to provide a major boost to the game in the state.
Calling upon Punjabis to revive the sporting glory of the state, the Chief Minister urged everyone to work together in rebuilding “Rangla Punjab” through sports. He said the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy would help restore Punjab’s rich legacy in hockey and strengthen sports culture across the region.
Highlighting the historical importance of the event, CM Mann noted that despite producing legendary hockey players for India over the decades, Punjab had never hosted a major international hockey tournament before. “This event will fill that gap and mark the beginning of a new era for sports infrastructure and sporting excellence in Punjab,” he added.
The matches of Asia’s premier hockey tournament will be played at the iconic Balbir Singh Sr. Hockey Stadium and Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.
Sharing the update on X, CM Mann said he held an important meeting with Hockey India officials to review preparations for the tournament. He reaffirmed that the Punjab Government would ensure grand arrangements, top-level security and all necessary facilities to make the event a grand success.
