The complainant stated that his 22-year-old daughter, who had completed a tailoring course from Government ITI Ludhiana, had gone to Government ITI Ghumar Mandi to collect her result but did not return home. After searching for her unsuccessfully, the complainant filed a missing person report at Police Station Division No. 8, Ludhiana, where Duty Officer ASI Hardeep Singh allegedly demanded Rs. 20,000 as a bribe for taking action on the complaint. The accused reportedly accepted Rs. 6,000 on the spot.

The spokesperson further revealed that after directions from senior officers, an FIR was registered at the police station. However, the accused ASI allegedly demanded the remaining Rs. 14,000 from the complainant for providing a copy of the FIR and proceeding further with the investigation.

Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Range, Ludhiana. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught the accused ASI red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 14,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana. Further investigation in the matter is currently underway.
